Little Mix don’t rest at all. In full promotion of their second studio album ‘Salute‘, and awaiting the announcement of the third official single, the girls are ready to release a new single entitled “Word Up!“.
The new song is not included on the album because it’s confirmed as the 2014 Sport Relief single. Sport Relief is a biennial charity event in conjunction with Comedy Relief, merges entertainment with sport to raise money and awareness to people both in the UK and the world’s poorest countries. Each year, Sport Relief has a single used to promote the charity event. Past singles have been: “Mama” (Spice Girls), “Don’t Stop Now” (McFly), “Better In Time” (Leona Lewis) and, last year’s single, “One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)“, performed by One Direction.
This year the boys pass the baton to the girls as the responsible for creating the brand new anthem. The song is a cover of 1986 hit single with the same name “Word Up!“, performed by American soul-influenced funk group Cameo. The Sport Relief single will be released on iTunes (UK) on March 16, 2014. It was first played on radio on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show on January 21.
The music video debuted on Chart Show TV on February 28, 2014. It was posted on VEVO on March 3.
