“Genesis Series” is the forthcoming project to come from Steven Zhu, better known as electronic music producer and singer-songwriter ZHU. It was released on November 6th via Columbia Records.
He returns after the Grammy nominated debut single “Faded” which managed a respectable #3 position in the UK Chart but did top the UK Dance Chart.
“Faded” released in March 2014 and was the lead single to be taken from his debut extended play “The Nightday“, which released on digital retailers on 20 April 2014 via Mind of a Genius.
The new project is set to feature electronic heavyweights Skrillex, DJ Snake and A-Trak alongside rappers and other talented musicians! The idea behind it is to bridge the gap between his last EP and his forthcoming full-length studio album “Generation Why” – due to release later this year!
There shall be new music previews from ZHU every Monday/Wednesday leading up to the release of “Genesis Series” with the new tracks being available to listen too via Generation Why. There is 7 tracks in total and the seventh, titled the same as his forthcoming album “Generation Why” will proceed the albums release.
The first of the seven tracks is a collaboration with English electronic music duo AlunaGeorge from London on “Automatic“. The track premiered via Spotify on 28 August 2015.
“Automatic” premiered in full on 16 September 2015 and was released on to digital retailers the same day. The music video produced by Sam Pilling and Sarah Park was premiered through Vevo on October 9th.
The next track, “As Crazy As It Sounds” a collaboration with electronic producer A-Trak with featured vocals of upcoming indie vocalist, Keznamdi was previewed on 23 September 2015 and released in full on 24 September 2015 via Vevo. It received its digital retailer release on 25 September 2015.
The third track “Testarossa” was teased on Monday 28 September 2015 and includes an additional feature of LA based upcoming singer-songwriter Gallant. It released on digital retailers on 2 October 2015.
The fourth track “Hold Up, Wait a Minute” was teased on Monday 5 October 2015 and features the additional vocals of hip-hop quintet Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and brass instrumentalist Trombone Shorty. It’s set to be released on 9 October 2015.
The fifth track “Modern Conversation” a collaboration with Australian musicians Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Daniel Johns. It was teased on Monday 12 October 2015 and released on digital retailers on 16 October 2015.
The sixth and final track “Working For It” a collaboration with American electronic producer extraordinaire Skrillex and upcoming LA-based alternative hip-hop/rap duo THEY. The track was teased on Monday 19 October 2015 and premiered in full alongside its digital release on 23 October 2015. The official animated music video premiered on 9 November 2015.
