The Golden Globe nominees for 2020 have already been announced! While some nominations came as a surprise to many, there are highly predicted contenders who showed up and fought their way to the front lines. With six nominations, Noah Baumbach’s lovelorn Marriage Story had the most tally. These include the best screenplay, best drama, best original score (for Randy Newman), best-supporting actress (Laura Dern), best actor (Adam Driver), and best actress (Scarlett Johansson). The film is the 12th masterpiece of the writer-director and is thus far the most winning on the awards circuit.
As expected, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman followed closely behind with five nominations each. Tarantino’s newest film is running to win best screenplay, best supporting actor (Brad Pitt), best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio), best director, and best motion picture, musical or comedy. Meanwhile, The Irishman is nominated for best director, best drama, and best screenplay (for Steve Zaillian). The film is probably one of the most star-studded production in the bunch with Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, both nominated for best-supporting actor category. However, the surprise came when the lead actor Robert De Niro’s name isn’t included in the list for his category.
